Call me a dreamer or a fool.
Whatever happened to club loyalty? No doubt it is as old fashion as my dad’s bog catchers. I distinctly recall when Wayne Rooney came to Manchester United it was like a dream come true for this wonder boy. In my mind I never dreamt that Rooney would ever leave the Red Devils, clearly I was wrong.
Loyalty! Club Loyalty at that. I want it back and I want it now.
Do these players not understand what they mean to the fans of clubs that spend their life savings on memberships, and memorabilia. Children saving their pocket money to buy the same shirt their hero wears week in week out.
I’m sick of the selfish footballer chasing the dollar, I’m sick of the lack of loyalty. Why couldn’t every footballer be like Steven Gerrard? Something needs to be done, but it won’t, because the dollar rules.
As a sign of protest football fans, lets search our closets for those old shirts with the names of stars that used to play for the clubs we love. Lets tie them together to create “Shirts of Shame”. Let this trail of used disloyal footballer’s shirts be a sign of our anger football fans.
