Some Golden Soft Sombrero Moments with Goran Lozanovski Lozza on injury treatment… Diegos: " How did you treat your injuries in the lead up to the finals? Did you adopt the Four Diegos' 'Slap a bit of raw meat on it and she'll be right' approach?" Lozanovski: " No raw meat for me. I thought I'd go the more conventional approach. I had sessions of physio twice a day and didn't extend myself too much at training and I got through a pretty tough period OK." Soft Sombrero Moment 1999
Diegos: " We heard a rumour that Angie called on the services of legendary AFL premiership coach, Allan Jeans, prior to the finals to put a snap in the boy's shorts?" Lozanovski: " He did. It was quite inspiring to be honest. I've never been addressed by an AFL coach before. I must admit, by the end of it, I had goose bumps all over my body." Diegos: " Did he make a Freudian slip and call it 'Wogball' at any stage?" Lozanovski: " No. He mainly talked about the similarities in mental preparation between both codes. I can assure you no mention was made of 'Wogball'." Soft Sombrero Moment 1999
Diegos: "You departed mid-season for a trial in Germany with Arminia Bielefeld. It was a whirlwind trip - a few set pieces at Arminia, a couple of beers at the Oktoberfest and then back home. How did it go?" Lozanovski: "It was fantastic. It was the first trial that I've been on and it was a great experience. People keep on asking me and I keep telling them that it is a different world out there. People don't realize it until they go out and experience it. I had about 5 sessions and quickly picked up that the intensity is much greater than it is here. Over there it's their life and they don't take anything for granted." Soft Sombrero Moment 1999
Diegos: "The Diegos affectionately call you the 'Amelda Marcos' of the Ericsson Cup because of your wide range of coloured boots. Does the opposition regard you as a Nancy-Boy or a fashion trendsetter? And what determines what colour boots you wear?" Lozanovski: "This year I've pretty much stuck with the black. Every now and again I'II bring out the white. At the moment I'm favoring the white boots I suppose. There may be something special for the finals though." Soft Sombrero Moment 1999
Diegos: "You, Perth Glory's Con Boutsianis and John Markovski are regarded as the foremost free kick specialists of the league. What determines which curling, swirling, dipping scud missile you're going to unleash from your repertoire?" Lozanovski: " It depends on the situation and how far out I am. Last season when Con Boutsianis was here. I used to just watch and admire him when he was hitting his free kicks. Jonsey (Markovski) was just the same. Just watching those guys hit a ball was incredible. This season I tried to step up to the next level and take a few myself and fortunately they've gone in." Diegos: "When you take free kicks do the South Melbourne boys have a code system indicating that this next one is going to be a 'Number 33A with a Twist' for example?" Lozanovski: "No it's all natural ability, a lot of hard work and practice. I've been around a few clubs and I haven't seen too many guys practicing free kicks. I practice a lot before and after training. The more practice the better you get." Soft Sombrero Moment 1999 |
